Europe and the Rise of Right-wing Nationalism

the guardian image

As Merkel prepares to leave politics and with the European elections around the corner, there is a lot of uncertainty surrounding European politics.

Far right parties have recently gained considerable strength and support in many European countries.

Why are they becoming so popular now? What are the similarities and differences between the different parties? How will their rise affect the future of Europe?

Come and join us on the 7th of March to discuss these issues with the help of the following panel of speakers:

– Paul Lewis: Associate Editor for the Guardian. He was previously the Washington Correspondent in DC and West Coast Bureau Chief in San Francisco.

– Tony Thommes: Candidate for the National Rally (previously known as the Front National) in the UK during the 2017 French Legislative elections.

– Hans Kundnani: Senior Research Fellow in the Europe Programme at Chatham House.

– Filip Rambousek: Central & Eastern Europe Political Analyst at Verisk Maplecroft

The Chair of the event will be Dr Adam Fagan – Professor of European Politics at King’s.

On the day of the event, we will also launch the second issue of KCL Dialogue on the topic of Territory! There will be free copies of the magazine available to those who attend.

*Event open to both, KCL Students and the General Public*
